In living memory, Turkish armies have reached the gates of Vienna, Austria, only to be turned back by the steadfast defenders. This Turkish, Islamic empire supplanted the Orthodox Byzantine Empire in the 15th Century and since then it has had a continuing, if not always whole-hearted, ambition to expand further westwards into the heart of Europe. The Ottomans also have power over the whole of the Mediterranean coast of North Africa. Ottoman power is unmatched in its extent and grandeur, straddling the traditional trade route between Europe and Asia. it didn't end well.The history of Europe over the last centuries can be seen as the history of the Ottoman Empire and a few annoying, small nations that thwarted Ottoman ambitions. most ridiculous (for me anyway) was trying almost entirely Cav and Chariots. He didn't lose with this combo, but he would often get pretty mauled (no pun intended). At one point I had him, Loremaster, Heavens Mage, 4 White Lions of Chrace, 5 Shadow Warriors, 3 Lions Chariots, 3 War Lions, 2 Star Dragons. My Least Favourite was trying to use all of Alastars (the White Lion) skills. With that combo (granted, at high level late campaign on Normal Difficulty) most armies didn't get to my front lines without being really ravaged. IMO they still stuck for sieges, but in open field battles I got pretty good results.Īt the end I was running Melee Lord (or Arch Mage), Wizard (Noble if using Arch Mage), Loremaster, 2 Phoenix Guard, 3 Swordmasters, 6 Sisters of Avelorn, 1 Star Dragon, 4 Bolt Throwers. I really wasn't a fan of Bolt Throwers initally, but when I picked the campaign back up a few weeks ago determined to get it off my gaming 'to do's' I decided to give them another run.
